Draw two routes: staff and guests
Start with a simple rectangle on your park sketch. Mark a service side and a guest-facing side. Leave room behind the tank for a staff gate and its path connection. Then draw a viewing route along the front. You can reshape the tank later without having to rebuild the entire visitor area around it.
Frontier describes aquarium boundaries that can be resized, rotated and raised, including concave and convex sections. Those options give you more control over the shape, but an intricate outline is optional. For a first build, a clear service route makes it easier to see whether the enclosure works.
The diagram below is our planning sketch, not a screenshot or an in-game size recommendation. Its purpose is to keep maintenance access visible while you decide where visitors stand.

The aquarium overview describes freshwater, saltwater and brackish water options. Pick animals first, then use their current game information to choose the appropriate environment. Do not assume that every aquatic animal belongs in a saltwater tank, or that two fish with the same water type can share an enclosure.
Water volume is part of aquarium space needs. A tank’s footprint alone therefore cannot tell you whether it suits a group of animals. Leave room to adjust its depth and dimensions after you can read the actual requirements. This guide does not provide minimum litres or a stocking formula because those values have not been independently checked in the released game.
Frontier says temperature and lighting controls are accessed through the staff gate. Put that gate somewhere easy to find rather than hiding it behind scenery during the first building pass.
Add the viewing experience after access works
Guest gates support underwater viewing routes, while different barrier shapes and one-way glass let you vary how visitors see the enclosure. Sketch a tunnel or a viewing bay as an extension to your initial tank. Reserve space for the entrance and exit so the guest route does not collide with the service side.
Try one clear viewing point first. Add levels, curves and scenery once you can see the relationship between the animal space, water and paths. A large window does not replace the checks an animal needs; the released game’s welfare information remains your reference.
Leave room for the unglamorous work
In Frontier’s feature overview, dirty water can affect animal health and visibility. Staff clean viewing windows, and maintenance helps prevent leaks. A good-looking tank still needs a workable service route. Avoid completing a scenery shell before testing staff access.
- Keep the staff gate and connecting path usable.
- Check the water environment for your selected species.
- Verify temperature, lighting and space in the game.
- Watch cleanliness and maintenance as the zoo runs.
- Recheck welfare after changing the animal group.
Workshop and supplied blueprints can offer a starting shape. Inspect a downloaded build’s paths and animal requirements before treating it as ready to use. A blueprint is a construction aid, not evidence that a particular stocking plan will work.
A small first-session plan
Choose one aquarium animal from the announced list, check whether it requires Deluxe, and keep a second species as a separate future idea. Build the basic enclosure and staff connection, then use the game’s requirements to refine it. Add a guest viewing feature only after the essential checks are clear.
This sequence is an editorial preparation plan based on published features. It is not a tested profit strategy or a claim that a named species is easiest for beginners. The creator preview above is useful for seeing how the building interface looked before release; details may change.
Questions, answered
Can I plan a mixed-species aquarium before release?
You can shortlist species and reserve room for tanks. Shared water type or enclosure category does not establish compatibility. Confirm interspecies and space requirements in the released game before placing animals together.

Frontier’s aquarium feature says these controls are accessed through the staff gate. Plan a connected staff gate before building the decorative shell.
